The airways of the lungs are impacted by asthma, which is a chronic (long-term) illness. The tubes that let air into and out of your lungs are called airways. The airways may occasionally swell and restrict if you have asthma. It makes it harder for air to exit your airways on expiration.
Asthma affects about 1 in 13 persons in the US. Certain factors, such as pollen, exercise, viral illnesses, or cold air, might trigger or exacerbate symptoms. We refer to these as asthma triggers. An asthma attack occurs when symptoms worsen.
Although there is no known treatment for asthma, there are ways to help you manage it. Monitoring, avoiding triggers, and using medications may all be part of the plan.
